Talk-20: Crab-like Robotic Platforms

John Grezmak, Kathryn Daltorio, CrabLine Robotics

CrabLine Robotics, a spinout of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), is developing crab-like robots as a delivery mechanism for tools in underwater environments, such as for cleaning, cutting or non-destructive testing. These multi-legged robots take inspiration from the crab robots previously developed at CWRU to provide tool delivery platforms that are easily maneuverable while remaining stable in dynamic underwater environments. This talk will provide an overview of the progress made to date on the development of CrabLine's first prototype and the challenges that have been and are being overcome. The plans for integration of MOOS-IvP into the company's current software base and the benefits this can provide will also be discussed.
