Talk-31: Roll Your Own AComms!
David Battle, Tom McCabe, Jared Silbermann, Mission Systems
- We have implemented a minimal processor module based on the TI AM5729 (Sitara) device which can form the basis of embedded hardware for ACOMMS, inference and general digital signal processing (DSP).
- The module can be soldered into a variety of peripheral carrier boards to build low-cost multi-function systems.
- Rather than incorporating expensive proprietary acoustic modems, we use a software-defined approach to ACOMMS.
- By implementing the NATO-standard JANUS and/or PHORCYS protocols, we retain full control while saving space, weight and cost.
- Mission Systems uses a similar approach in all low-cost and expendable underwater systems.
