Coastal Monitoring is a research project at Kongsberg Discovery that utilizes the MOOS-IvP platform to enhance environmental surveillance capabilities. The project centers on a refurbished Formula 2 boat hull retrofitted for monitoring applications. Named RAN, this platform integrates Kongsberg technologies such as the KCC100 Camera Cluster, GNSS antennas, Seapath 130 OEM, and a miniMRU, alongside adaptable sensors including the SY50 fish-finding sonar and CP300 ADCP transducer for gathering important information about the subsurface marine environment. Ongoing efforts include the integration of SY50 and ADCP sensor data for behaviors used by the IvP-Helm, enhancing mission safety and efficiency by utilizing subsurface information. Moreover, improvements are being made to the processing of Camera Cluster data for enhanced collision and obstacle avoidance capabilities. RAN is a fully electric vehicle designed for monitoring shallow fjords and marine environments with minimal disturbance to marine life, boasting sufficient battery capacity for prolonged operational periods, balancing speed and endurance in mapping missions.
