2.S01 Core Course Skills

An autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) brings together multiple disciplines. Many of those disciplines lean toward hardware and mechanical design, and many lean toward software and computer science. You can think an AUV of it as a physical machine moving through the water with the ability to sense and computer, or a computer with sensors that happens to be housed in a container that moves through the water.

A challenge of learning the core course skills is that they often need to be learned in parallel, or that there sometimes can be circular dependencies, e.g, you need Skill A which depends on Skill B, which depends on Skill A. Our approach in 2.S01 is to repeatedly dive into these core skills further and further while returning to each skillset to learn new things which we in turn use on in other areas.

For many of these skill areas, they very likely will have long lasting applicability to many other facets of your education and career outside marine vehicles.
