Game Day Specifics (Tuesday, May 14th, 2024)

In the final game day competition, here are a few specifics and assumptions about the competition:

  • The swimmer layout will be randomly generated on the day of the competition and will only be available on the TA staff computer acting as the shoreside.
  • You can expect between 7 and 25 registered swimmers, and between 11 and 25 unregistered swimmers, to be determined on the day of the competition.
  • During any Team A vs Team B competition, if there is time, a second competition will be run before pulling the vehicles from the water. The second competition will have a different randomly generated set of swimmers.
  • The minimum separation between swimmers will be between 5 and 12 meters. Closer swimmers introduces more possibility of clusters and rewards teams that consider clusters.
  • The capture detection radius will not change from the rescue_baseline mission.
  • There will be no purposely dropped messages or artifically range-limited messages during the competition. At the MIT Pavlilion, dropped messages happen but they are generally thought to be rare. We cannot guarantee that a message will not be dropped.
  • As discussed in the lab, the rescue vehicle can rescue un-discovered swimmers if it happens to drive near enough to the swimmer.
