Talk-27: AHab, BHab, CHab- Building a Small Vessel for MOOS-IvP Control

Alon Yaari, SARA Inc.

he SARA, Inc. Boat Lab has investigated several approaches to building a kayak-based autonomous vessel. Our first vessel, Ahab, demonstrated how quickly a simple vessel could operate under control of MOOS and IvP Helm. Bhab, based on a fishing pontoon, had its issues. Today SARA mainly runs Chab, a low-cost, easily deployed system for field-testing IvP behaviors. This presentation shares the lessons learned from custom designing hardware. In addition, MOOS apps adapted and created for the vessels are described.
