Talk-14: C-Ray Platform - Pliant Energy Systems

Carles Civit, Manuel Marin, Daniel Zimmerman, Benjamin Pietro Filardo

Pliant Energy Systems, Brooklyn NY

C-Ray is a marine robot built on MOOS-IvP uniquely effective in surf zones, shallow waters, and cluttered environments using just one pair of undulating fins, a niche that has proven hard to crack for conventional designs. At MOOS-DAWG we'll demo the vehicle live for the first time in this venue and present a new four-fin architecture in development that pushes maneuverability significantly further. Beyond the hardware, we'll share honest field lessons: what worked, what didn't, and the challenges of carving out a niche for an exotic platform, along with our experience bridging MOOS-IvP and ROS2, efforts toward interoperability standards, and operational lessons from OPEXes.
