New in 2011 - The "Best New MOOS App 2011"' Competition

If you have a new MOOS application, consider submitting it in this competition!

In the spirit of encouraging the development and sharing of good new innovative apps, with equally good documentation, we are kicking off what we hope will be the first annual competition forum at MOOS-DAWG.

Guidlines:

There will be a Regular and Student category.

To qualify:

  • Source code and documentation available under an open source license prior to July 8th, 2011.
  • An app is considered a "new" app if it was not publicly available as of MOOS-DAWG'10 in August 2010.
  • The app must be presented at MOOS-DAWG'11 in one of the normal speaker time slots.

Criteria for evaluation:

  • Importance of the problem it addresses - the application may pertain to any part of autonomous vehicle control, including the actual operation, pre-mission configuration planning, post-mission (logfile) analysis, topside/remote software for interfacing with a fielded vehicle, or communications/routing software.
  • Wideness in applicability to the user community - The more users it benefits, the better.
  • Quality of the documentation - Only applications that are accompanied with documentation will be considered. Good documentation should include (a) a description of use, (b) motivation for the app, (c) example usage configuration, (d) description of the underlying implementation algorithms if applicable, (e) a decent command line --help output.

There will be a small team of judges (3-4 people) from different organizations.

Submitting an Entry:

  • Submit a talk abstract describing the app by the normal talk submission date, June 1st, 2011.
  • Submit the source code, documentation, and briefing by July 8th, 2011 (10 days before MOOS-DAWG'11).
  • By the July 8th 2011 date, the app should be publicly available under an Open Source license. If you would like help in hosting the source code on the MOOS-DAWG server, please let us know a few days prior to July 8th.
