2018 Summer Internship Program

We are looking for an engaging group of students who want to have fun! And who are interested in studying robotic autonomy applied to marine vehicles; who are funny, kind, and driven; and who would like to join our community for 8 to 10 weeks this summer on the water in Cambridge.

About the Program

This summer the MIT Battelle Marine Autonomy Lab opens it’s doors to welcome a group of talented and motivated students as summer interns.

Interns will be supporting our robot capture the flag competition called Aquaticus. Aquaticus is a project with the goal of developing a competition where humans and robots compete together against similarly configured teams of humans and robots. The competition is conducted on the water in about a one square kilometer area off the MIT Sailing Pavilion.

Our two main platforms for the Aquaticus competition are the Kingfisher Heron and the Mokai a motorized kayak.

Your main role as an intern will consist of taking care of one of our autonomous robots making sure that it’s healthy and deploying it for on the water testing. You will learn the starting and shutdown procedures, how to analyze and fix code when things don’t go as planned, and how to mechanically maintain the robot.

The program is designed to be fun and provide the opportunity for you as an intern to come and learn about marine robotics and skills applicable to many professions.

Interns may have the opportunity to participate in outside activities as well.
